Who is Westside Soccer Club?
Westside Soccer Club is focused on providing children ages 7-18 with the opportunity to play competitive soccer. Westside teams play teams from other clubs and participate in one of three area leagues: Houston Youth Soccer Association, Eastern District Super II, or Eastern District Division I. Westside teams are single age teams for U8 through typically U14 with mixed age teams being more prevalent for high school ages.

Does WSC have professional training?
Westside teams practice 1-3 times a week depending on their age and competitive level. U8 through U10 Westside teams participate in camp [group] training run by professional trainers at Sports Quest. U11 and older Westside teams have a SQ trainer for each team. SQ training fees are not included in the club registration fee. These training fees vary from approximately $100 to $300 per player per season, depending upon the level of trainer and number of sessions.  http://sportsquesttraining.com

Can we bring our own Team to Westside Soccer Club?
Yes. We encourage full teams to join WSC from ages U8-U10. Your team can stay together until U11.

What happens at U11?
At U11, all players (boys & girls) participate in tryouts. Each player is ranked and an A Team is formed. The remaining players form the B Team, and if there are enough players then a C Team is formed.

What happens in U10 and above?
Each year every player will participate in tryouts and the players are ranked. An existing team is a core team that can add or replace players through the tryout process. The A Team coach will officially extend invitations to each player they would like on their team. The player can accept or reject the invitation. No player has to play on team that they do not want to play on. The B & C Team coaches can then extend invitations to the remaining players based on need with the B Team coach having the higher priority

Who ranks the players at tryouts?
Sports Quest, the WSC training partner, along with the WSC Coaches will evaluate the players. Each player will go through a series of drills over 2-3 days and the trainers will use a point system to evaluate each player. The players are then ranked by points.

What league will we be in?
Teams will be entered into the Houston Youth Soccer Association (HYSA) through WSC. Division I and Super II (EDS2) will play in the Eastern District.

Where are the practices?
Practices will be held at the Bear Creek Park soccer complex located at the corner of Eldridge and Clay. The fields on the east side of War memorial Drive, L17-L30 are WSC fields. http://www.hysa.us/images/maps/westside.gif

Where are the games?
Home games will be played at the Bear Creek Park soccer complex and away games will be within HYSA geographic area.

When are the games?
Most games for the younger age groups are scheduled for Saturdays and the older age groups play on Sundays, but this may vary due to rainouts and other scheduling factors.

How many games are in a season?
Typically there are 8-10 games in a season. This depends on the league and age of the players. Tournaments are also an option for teams to fit around their regular season. http://www.stxsoccer.org/tournaments/invitationals

What are the different levels of play?
There are five levels of play for Westside teams. All U8 - U10 teams are Division IV. For U11 and above there are four levels: Division I, Super Blue (ED SII), Division II or Division III.

Division I

Division I is the highest level and is for highly committed players and families who are willing to play a full schedule in both the fall and the spring. At the older age groups, participation on a Division I team will be expected to be in preference to (but not necessarily to the exclusion of) participation in other club sports. Our Division I teams play in the Eastern District Division One Association (EDDOA).

Super II

Super Blue (EDS2) is the second highest competitive level. Teams from Southeast Texas play at specified locations within a 100-mile radius of Houston. Like Div I, Super Blue teams are typically year around teams.

Houston Youth Soccer

HYSA embodies 18 clubs located in the western and southwestern areas of Houston. HYSA offers Division II and III competition for ages 11-18 and Division IV competition for ages 9 and younger. Westside teams playing in the HYSA league play ½ of their games at Bear Creek and ½ at fields up to 45 minutes away from Bear Creek. Many of the Division II, III, and IV teams play in the fall and in the spring, but some play fall only.

What is the difference between Fall play and Spring play?

Fall Play

Divisions I, Super II, and II will play a regular season schedule. The top winning teams at each level can qualify for the Eastern Regional Playoffs and then State Playoffs. Division III has local playoffs. There are no playoffs for Division IV.

Spring Play

Divisions I, Super II, II, & III will play in various cup play (see below). Division IV will play a regular season schedule.

National Cup (USYSNC)
